Hi, I’m Jaycelle

I’m a licensed pharmacist in the United States, originally trained in the Philippines, and the founder of PinoyPharmD.
I created this website after seeing how often people struggle to understand their medications, insurance, Medicare, and prescription costs.
Patients and team members regularly ask questions such as:
- Why is my prescription so expensive?
- Why didn’t my insurance cover it?
- What does my deductible mean?
- Why did my copay change?
- What should I know about this medication?
These questions are common, but the answers are not always explained clearly.
PinoyPharmD is my way of making healthcare information easier to understand.
My Pharmacy Journey
My path to becoming a pharmacist started in the Philippines, where I earned my pharmacy degree.
When I came to the United States, I entered a healthcare system that was different from the one I knew. Continuing my pharmacy career required me to understand new professional requirements, adjust to a different way of practicing pharmacy, and complete the steps needed to become licensed.
The process required patience, preparation, and persistence.
Going through that experience helped me understand how overwhelming an unfamiliar system can feel. Sometimes you do not need more information. You need someone to explain the information in a way that makes sense.
That lesson continues to shape how I communicate with patients, team members, and readers today.
Why I Created PinoyPharmD
I started PinoyPharmD to share my experience as a Filipino pharmacist building a career in the United States.
Over time, I saw another need.
Many people were confused about healthcare costs, medication coverage, deductibles, high copays, and Medicare. They often did not know why a prescription price had changed or who to contact for help.
A pharmacy may be the place where someone discovers that a medication is not covered or costs more than expected. However, the pharmacy does not control every insurance decision or prescription price.
I wanted to create a place where people could learn how these parts of healthcare work before they felt lost or frustrated.
My goal is not to tell you what personal medical decision to make. My goal is to help you understand the situation, prepare useful questions, and know which healthcare professional or organization may be able to help.
What PinoyPharmD Represents
The name PinoyPharmD reflects my Filipino background and my life as a pharmacist.
This website brings together the parts of my life and experience that I can share with others:
- Making medications and healthcare costs easier to understand
- Sharing lessons from my pharmacy journey
- Supporting pharmacy students and professionals
- Encouraging practical, healthy living
- Documenting family travel experiences
Healthcare education is now the main focus of PinoyPharmD. Pharmacy-career and family-travel content remain part of the website because they are also part of my story.
Who I Hope to Help
I created PinoyPharmD for people who want clear, practical information without unnecessary medical language.
You may find this website helpful if you are trying to understand a medication, a prescription cost, an insurance term, Medicare coverage, or a common health topic.
I also write for foreign pharmacy graduates, pharmacy students, technicians, pharmacists, and others who want to learn from my professional journey.
My family-travel guides are for parents who want realistic ideas for exploring cities, national parks, road trips, and family-friendly destinations.
If you are looking for a particular topic, the Start Here page will guide you to the right section.
My Approach
When I write about healthcare, I aim to:
- Explain complicated information in plain language
- Use reliable and current sources
- Separate general education from personal medical advice
- Be clear when information may vary by person, medication, insurance plan, or location
- Encourage readers to contact a qualified healthcare professional when needed
- Review and update information when recommendations or coverage rules change
I will not use fear, promise quick fixes, or tell you to start, stop, or change a medication without speaking with your healthcare professional.
Beyond the Pharmacy
Outside of pharmacy, I enjoy traveling and exploring new places with my family.
Our trips include cities, national parks, road trips, outdoor destinations, and kid-friendly attractions. I share these experiences to help other families plan trips that are enjoyable and manageable with children.
Travel gives our family time to connect, experience something different, and build memories together. It also reminds me that a healthy life can include rest, curiosity, movement, and time with the people who matter to us.
Thank You for Visiting
